Promises Promises

I know I said last week that I’d have pictures of our newly painted and finished cabinets on Monday, but I didn’t.  That’s just it, plain and simple.  I could say I’m pregnant and I forgot or I’m pregant and I’m tired, or we were out of town over the weekend and I didn’t get around to it or the chicks have really taken up a lot of our time, but…those would just be excuses lies.

The truth is, our house is a total wreck.  And that includes the kitchen countertops.  Oops.  So instead of documenting our mess in all its glory, I decided to wait until I can neat it up a bit.  Hopefully that will be tonight because I can’t say enough about how glorious the new cabinet color is.  And the hardware.  Oh friends, the hardware!

When I look at the kitchen now, it is truly as if I have grown a unicorn horn and sprayed fireworks from it to all of America.  Even the deep deep south.  Even the pacific northwest.  Everywhere I tell ya.  Everywhere!

Well Hello There

Everybody, welcome the newest additions to our family.

Ha, did you think I was about to show you a baby picture?  No way.  We are hoping for several more weeks on that little arrival.  But in the meantime, we thought we’d take on four baby chicks.  Presh!

We have to keep them inside for five-ish weeks so they aren’t cold or eaten by predators.  Then, they will live in a coop in our back yard where they will eventually provide us and our neighbors with fresh eggs.  Yes!

I’m already super attached, so fingers crossed that nothing happens to them.

Nothin’ But A Good Time

Our cabinets are done.  Well, in terms of paint.  And friends let me tell you, they look gooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!

Last night when we got home from work, everything was painted and left to dry.  Today, the guys are coming back to put the doors back on and install the hardware.  We went with these Celtic looking handles for the drawers and cabinets.  I cannot wait to see the finished product.

When I walked into the house last night, this is what I saw:

I won’t lie, this color and how good it looked made me feel like the 10 seconds between marker 3:39 and 3:49 of this:

Yes!

Here are a couple other in progress shots.

This one is from the dining room viewpoint:

Don’t mind the mess or how unorganized our cabinet items are.  I have a life to live people, so there’s no time to be neat when something is hidden.  The good thing is that with this new color and all it does for the central area of our house, I no longer hate the white countertops.  Yes, I would like something more modern, but I can live with these for a long time.  What I don’t like, however, is this 1980s microwave.

No.  I’ve always hated it because it looks so dated, but now I really really really hate it.  I already shared these feelings with Husband, so hopefully we can spend just a little money and get a new one.  I won’t press my luck just yet though.

Holy Cabinets Batman…Again?

You may remember a few weeks ago when I was talking about getting our kitchen cabinets painted.  Then, having the let down of all let downs when the painter basically scammed us for $100.  Some people still don’t believe he scammed us.  Instead, they think he planned on doing the work, but since he had a cool Benjamin in his pocket, why not put it off until he needed more money.  Either way, not good.

Update on that situation:  he’s stayed in touch via text and even went so far as telling us he mailed a money order for the $100.  Surprisingly, we never got it.  Hmm….So, he and Husband have gone back and forth about getting the money, and now we’ve given him an ultimatum.  If we don’t have it by this Sunday, we’re taking legal action.  Not sure what, but I’m ready to give him an old fashioned beat down.  That’s not exactly legal, but so what?  I’m not exactly rational.

We’ll see what happens.  Probably not much since I doubt the police can do anything, and suing him would likely get us more than $100 of legal fees.  Stay tuned…

In case you are in the Charlotte area and are ever looking for painters on Craigslist (which I don’t recommend), don’t use Adrian.  His full name is Adrian West and I intend to spread the word on him from here to Timbuktu.  I even flagged him on Craigslist even though I don’t know if that does much.  Ugh.  So annoying.

After this debacle, we still wanted/needed our cabinets painted.  And, since I’m 8 months pregnant, Husband put the ol’ kibosh on me doing it.  (whatever)  So, we went in search of someone else.

We found a guy who we think (and hope) is reputable and honest and good.  His rate was much higher than Adrian’s, and he has credentials.  Including a paint van.  I know it sounds silly, but I look for that kind of thing.  If you show up and don’t have a ladder and some buckets on your truck or van…suspect.

Anyway, he and his crew showed up this morning at 7am, which is when they said they would and already exponentially more than what that piece of shit Adrian did.  Or didn’t do.  So fingers crossed friends.

There’s a chance I’ll go home today to sanded and primed cabinets.  Or maybe finished cabinets.  Or maybe to a shell of a house with all my belongings taken.  For everyone on earth’s sake, I hope it’s not that one.
