None of Husband’s or my grandparents are still alive. A fact that saddens us because it would have been great to meet each other’s and have them meet us. But, life is life, and it’s a circle.
As we get further along in this pregnancy, we seem to want to be around our family more and more. That includes our friend family. Two of these friends, Mr. Go To and JAM, have been family to Husband for many, many years, and now I consider them mine too, along with Laid Back, Mr. Go To’s wife. Last night, all of us went to dinner at a fish camp near our house, and they brought their grandmother, Maw Maw.
First off, let me just say that Maw Maw is the cutest, sassiest, funniest lady on the planet. She’s an 85 year old spitfire that all people should be lucky enough to know. We adore her, and we would like to adopt her as our surrogate grandmother. I don’t think our friends would mind.
One of the greatest parts of dinner, besides the hushpuppies and salad bar with fake bacon bits (YUM), was hearing Maw Maw tell stories about her late husband, the aptly named Paw Paw. I think I only met Paw Paw once, if that, but stories about him make me wish I had known him better.
It’s the stories about the two of them and their 61 year marriage though that reach straight into my heart and give it a little hug. Last night, she reminded me that love is the greatest thing there is. It is food for the soul, and it really is all you need.
Thanks Maw Maw for making us laugh and reminding us that a lifetime of love is not an unattainable goal.
