After my excited anticipation of returning to the land of cable and internet, we were not able to get it. I swear, we do not live that far out in the country where such amenities are unavailable like when I was a kid. We could never get cable because “they didn’t run the lines out that far”. This is not the same situation, but it sure does make me feel that same way.
Our house needs to be “fished”, meaning the cable guy has to run lines here and there or something. Whatever, I don’t care what it means, just do it. Ugh. Now, potentially another week without these necessities. Obviously, I am one of the strongest people on Earth to be able to endure such setbacks.
Even without cable and internet, the weekend was one of those once in a blue moon weekends that just makes you feel great. Saturday morning, Mother In Law and I hung out while Husband went to direct to the movers from the townhouse to the new house. Cousin Princess showed up around 9:45, and we three ladies headed to my baby shower brunch soon after. It was the best shower ever in life with the friends and food, which was delish Also, getting baby gifts is so much fun. It’s way more fun and less awkward than a wedding shower. One, there is less pressure because it’s more about the baby than all eyes on you. Two, everything for a baby is darling and presh, so every single gift is exciting.
I realize I am an emotional roller coaster these days and in desperate need of girl time and relaxation time, so the shower couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. But, as always it was the little things that made it so special.
Many of my friends, including the shower hosts, are crafty. I am including a few highlights from the shower in case you are hosting one or attending one soon. These are great ideas, and they don’t even include the handmade gifts I received. I will save those beauts for another post.
We’ll start with the food. YUM! Everything was delicious, and looked so pretty. Pard even put up a menu, which was a nice touch. Very elegant without overdoing it.

You might be asking yourself what that gloriousness is in the shape of a turtle. Well, friends, it’s a turtle cake. I’m sorry, I don’t think you heard me. A TURTLE CAKE! Since we all know the obsession with turtles (remember this and this?), you can imagine the joy I felt when seeing it. And, it was a cake too? Be still my beating heart!
Mrs. Wee made it and decorated it all by herself. The feet and head were chocolate cake, and the center was vanilla. It took her several hours, and if that’s not love, I don’t know what is. Here’s a close up.

I still can’t even deal with how sweet and presh it was.
Another perfect little touch was this wreath that my friend, Hot Legs, made for the door. It is made of diapers that we can actually use along with ribbons and other little embellishments. She added two noisemakers, which are just the cutest things ever.

And, lastly, one of the most fun parts of the shower was having guests write messages to the parents to be on diapers. The idea is that we can read them as we change diapers and hopefully the well wishes and jokes will take our minds off of the fact that we have had no sleep and are cranky. We’ll see, but regardless, I loved it and thought it was a fun idea.
As if these hours of joy weren’t enough, after the shower, Mother In Law, Cousin Princess and I returned to the new house to find the living room fully furnished. And not only that, it looks great. Later, Brother In Law came over, and while we were sitting in there all eating dinner together, I had one of those warm and fuzzy moments of family time. It was so nice to be with all of them in our new home. Hearts all around.
Sunday, Husband and I unpacked and put things away while Mother In Law and Brother In Law worked on the nursery. I can’t wait to show you guys pictures, but it is not finished just yet. I will tell you that it is already a storybook of love, and when the final touches are put on it, it will be even better.
I am exhausted today, as is Husband, but we are now in our house with almost everything we could ever want. In reality, we have everything we could want or need, but it is nice to have tv once in a while. Just sayin’.
I also want to say thanks to Pard, Hot Legs, Mrs. Wee and Wildflower for the best shower ever, to all our friends for their generosity and love, and to our family for helping out with our house. I’m sure we would have never been able to make it through the weekend without all of you.
Awww, how sweet and creative! And I’m glad you’re in your house now. We finally finished most of what we’re going to do…next will be renovations. They’re gonna wait a while…the turtle cake-great fun!
