Workplace Etiquette
March 3, 2010
Someone needs to teach a class on workplace etiquette. I think it should be me as I am very sensitive to things that are unacceptable at the workplace and to people who should know certain things but maybe they don’t. Or maybe they are just filthy buggers, which is probably more likely. For example, first topic for discussion would be talking to someone first thing in the morning when they obviously aren’t ready to be all chatty but you stand there anyway and won’t leave. With your questions and nosy parkerness, it’s enough to drive someone mad. And, when that person tries to blow you off in a nice way or is somewhat short with you, you take it as the challenge of your life and come back to talk more. Get a clue. LEARN SOCIAL CUES PEOPLE! It’s not that hard. If someone isn’t very receptive to you, then that means they don’t want to talk. To you. Right then. Not ever, just then. You can still be friendly and talk later in the day, but maybe they just aren’t a morning person. Have you ever thought of that? Maybe they are tired because they had to get up at the crack and had cereal for breakfast which made them very sleeeeepy. GAH!
Second on the syllabus would be basic human hygiene. I am very disturbed by the things people will do at work. I’m fine with brushing your teeth in the bathroom after lunch or putting your hair up if you are hot or just went outside and got windblown. But, it is not okay, I repeat NOT OKAY to clip your nails at work. EVER. If there were ever a thing to do at home, that is it. I just walked past a girl’s office and saw and heard (even worse) her clipping her fingernails. Aside from wanting to bop her, I almost gagged. Unacceptable.
